CRU: RGI and Safe Electric. Gas Networks Ireland: Registered Gas Installers. Check a name on rgi.ie and the Safe Electric public register before anyone opens a live gas fitting or a consumer unit.
Gas — RGI
Domestic natural gas (and the fittings covered by the regulations) may only be installed, removed, repaired, serviced or replaced by a Registered Gas Installer. The RGI must issue a Declaration of Conformance. That certificate is your evidence the work meets I.S. 813 (and related standards). From 1 September 2026, regulated non-domestic gas works also require registration in the correct category — see RGI non-domestic rules and S.I. No. 106/2026.
Electrics — Safe Electric
A contractor carrying out electrical works that fall under the scheme must be a Registered Electrical Contractor with Safe Electric. Ask for the registration number and a completion certificate. DIY on a consumer unit is how houses fail inspection and how insurers argue.
What to ask on the call
RGI or Safe Electric number; will they issue the certificate; is the person on site the registered individual or a helper. Then look them up yourself. Do not accept “we’re insured” as a substitute.
Find plumbers and electricians
Local Trades Ireland checks CRO and public contact. We do not yet store a verified RGI / Safe Electric number on every profile — you still check the official register. Start with plumbing & heating and electricians, then a town page such as Dublin.
