How to compare trades quotes in Ireland without looking only at the total

The cheap figure is often a thinner scope. Write the brief once. Send it to three businesses. Then look at labour, materials, certificates and exclusions.

RGI or Safe Electric when required

Hold every quote to one line: area, photos, access, what is stripped out, who owns surprises, and which certificates you will receive. For gas or electrics, also hold them to RGI / Safe Electric.

If a grant is involved

SEAI looks at qualifying measures and registered contractors. Ask for labour on its own line. Read Better Energy Homes or One Stop Shop before you treat a number as “after grant”.

Then call

Open the profile, check CRO, and start from the catalogue or a trade such as roofing or electricians.

Frequently asked questions

How many quotes?

Two or three with the same brief is enough.

Why do totals differ?

Scope. Scaffolding, waste, making-good and certificates are often missing from the cheap figure.

What must be on the invoice?

CRO, what was done, labour and materials on separate lines if you may claim a grant.

Does Local Trades Ireland take a cut?

No. You call the business.
